Strengths:  Great Sound Quailty, Easy Speaker setup, True HD 1080p support
Weaknesses:  Confusing manual, will not up convert 480i and 480p signals via HDMI weak on-screen manual setup
Review:  Forced to contact Yamaha Tech support on how to up-convert 480i, 480p, 720p 1080i into 1080p for my Sony KDL-52W4100 TV.... Learned to that RX-V863BL MUST BE CONNECTED with component cables. and that 720p and 1080i will be unchanged by this receiver...it would get 5 stars if not for the confusing manual and connection deception

Strengths:  HDMI & optical inputs. Auto calibrating feature with included microphone.
Weaknesses:  There is no upconversion and only 2 HDMI inputs, it is still very heavy and bulky.
Review:  This system was easy to set up right out of the box. The optimizer microphone made good adjustments and the 4 listening templates were simple to alter as desired. Strengths:  HD radio, Net radio, Rhapsody, XM/Sirus. New HD movie formats DD-DTS, HDMI 1.3a, Network-DLNA, powerful, quality build.
Weaknesses:  Setup takes a while, manual could be written a little better. Firmware needed to fix a few bugs.
Review:  This AV is a beast! Great power and loads of features. I did a lot of research and it was between this and the Denon 4208ci. The Yamaha sound is very good and there are plenty of DSP modes or listen pure.
